David Mims serves as the Chairman of the Midland Development Corporation. As a long time Midlander, David brings a unique insight to the organization that comes from both his personal and professional roots being firmly rooted in Midland.
David established himself professionally in 1977 when he began his insurance career and is currently the President of Mims and Smith Insurance Agency. David is actively involved in a variety of civic organization in Midland including the Midland Rotary Club, Midland Association of Insurance Agents, High Sky Children’s Ranch, Midland United Way, Permian Basin Area Foundation and the Midland Chamber of Commerce. In addition, other activities include active participation in his church as well as enjoying music, fly fishing, reading and sports in his spare time.
1st Vice Chairman
Robert Rendall, Jr. serves as the 1st Vice Chairman for the Midland Development Corporation. After being a resident of Midland for over 49 years, Robert holds the city close to his heart and feels strongly about seeing our community grow and prosper in the years to come.
Robert was born in Lake County, Illinois and after moving to Texas later graduated from the University of Texas at Austin with a BBA in 1975. He then continued his education at Texas Tech University School of Law gratuating with his Juris Doctorate in 1978. Robert was admitted to the Texas bar in 1978, the U.S. District Court, Western District of Texas in 1979, and the U.S. Court of Appeals, Fifth Circuit in 1980. He was named Midland County's Outstanding Young Lawyer 1989 - 1990. Rendall served as the former Midland County Attorney and as a City of Midland Councilman. He is currently a shareholder of the law firm Stubbeman, McCrea, Sealy, Laughlin & Browder Corporate and Commercial Real Estate in Midland.
2nd Vice Chairman
Doug Henson is President of SBC, LP, a Midland based real estate development company. He also currently serves as the 2nd Vice Chairman of Midland Development Corporation. He Continues to hold certification by the American Economic Development Council under the CEcD emeritus status. Mr. Henson has served as a Director of the Southern Industrial Development Council and President of the Texas Industrial Development Council.
Before affiliating with SBC, LP in 1982 he served as Vice President of First National Bank of Midland after receiving his bachelor's degree from Texas Tech University in 1969.
Previous community involvement includes serving as president of the Midland Jaycees, Midland Arthritis Foundation, Midland Industrial Foundation and Ranchland Hills Country Club and Chairman of the Midland Country Library, Midland Chamber of Commerce and the Midland Housing Authority.
Henson was named Midland's Outstanding Young Man and Texas Monthly recognized Mr. Henson as a Rising Star of Texas.
Treasurer
Laura Roman is a CPA and partner with Elms, Faris & Co., LLP, specializing in tax, mergers and acquisitions, and business advisory services.
Laura was raised in Midland and graduated from Midland High in 1991. She later graduated from Baylor University in 1995 with a BBA in Accounting. Laura worked in Houston for 7 years with two of Houston’s top 10 largest accounting firms and eventually moved back to Midland in 2002 and has been with Elms, Faris since.
Community Activities include her key role in starting the Young Professionals of Midland, and currently serves as Vice Chair for YPM, Board of Trustees for Museum of the Southwest, Board of Directors for Junior Achievement and Boys and Girls Club of Midland, as well as having served on the Midland Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors. Laura currently serves as Treasurer on the Board of Directors for the Midland Development Corporation.
